Molly Piper ~ Books and PuppetS

More and more teachers, librarians, principals and parents are noticing how much kids need hands-on activities to balance out all their test-driven schoolwork. And there are plenty of studies out there that prove play is an essential part of learning ~ happy kids perform better on tests! Molly Piper's books and puppets, along with her stories about creativity and nature, have an impact that will inspire your kids throughout the year. Molly offers programs for libraries as well as schools, bringing books, nature and the arts together in delightful and memorable ways. You know things are good when the big kids linger after a presentation!

Molly's Puppet/Art Club at our school was so profoundly wonderful that we invited her back the next year for a five-month residency ~ this time a language arts program (using books and puppets) with all seventy-five of our first graders. And she pulled it off again. The children were soooo excited everytime they knew it was their special day with her. I know some of them improved so much in their reading, speaking, and writing, and I can't quite say how she did it. She just takes them by surprise, and off they go!

We've hosted Molly at our library time and time again. She has conducted many different kinds of projects and shows, and it is always exciting to see kids and adults walk away with big smiles on their faces and unique projects in their hands.

Molly's puppetry is intriguing, engaging and educational. I loved the kids' inquisitive responses. I loved the little girl who was so excited to be spoken to by Hazelnut the Puppet, she did a backwards somersault! ~ K Kleeman, Rainier Timberland Library
:::::::::::::: Molly's puppets and stage were absolutely beautiful, and the program was a great balance of watching and interacting. The kids adored making their own bird and butterfly puppets, and they all seemed transfixed during the puppet show itself. Thank you for visiting Olympia! ~ Sara Lachman, Youth Services Librarian, Olympia Timberland Library

I couldn’t agree more that meaningful hands on experiences lead to happy, creative children; especially if they have some choice in the activities they pursue. When we explained to our 4 year old daughter some 20 years ago, that there would be no more tv in our home, we expected quite a bit of resistance. Instead, when we replaced that time with read alouds and activities, she became happier. To our surprise, she offered little resistance at all, except for occaisional bargaining for videos, which we did allow. It’s, of course, not always easy or possible to squeeze in that time with our children; so it’s wonderful to have programs like Acorn and Rose to help supplement our own efforts. Thanks, Molly for the great work you do. ~ Carol S., McKenna,WA
